I am looking for help in locating a recipe for a free form apple galette or apple tart. It was on TV sometime in the last 2 weeks and due to interruptions I can't remember the TV show I saw it on. The most interesting thing about the recipe was that she sliced the apples really thin but they were complete apple slices with the core taken out. She used a Granny Smith apple I think.

Anyone remember seeing this? I checked Martha Stewart TV show archive and can't seem to find it.

I hope someone out there knows the one I am talking about!

I love free-form pies!

They're not difficult to make. Take your favorite apple pie recipe and make up the filling. Roll out your dough into a very large circle. Pile the filling in the center, dot with butter, then fold up the edges around it, making nice pleats all the way around.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 30-45 minutes, depending on the amount of filling and type of dough used. I use Martha's Pate Brisee recipe.

These are sometimes called crostatas.
