Hi
I'm making a vampire baby shower cake this weekend, don't ask, lol, it's going to be a belly cake w/a bite on the belly and blood dripping out, the cake will be covered in fondant, what can I use for the blood so as not to ruin the fondant? I won't put the blood on until right before the shower, but I don't want the fondant to get ruined during the shower. Any ideas? Thanks!

Red and a little blue or purple piping gel. It will look red and shiny like blood.

I agree with ttehan4 red piping gel looks really good. I did a skull and rose cake and i used red piping gel (if you look in my pics you will see what it will look like)

Piping gel will look great and realistic and it won't ruin the fondant unles it is left for a day or so.

In addition to piping gel, you might want to use corn syrup with red color in it.

traditional edible stage blood:

clear corn syrup
red & blue food coloring -- mostly red toned w/ a drop or two of blue to get more realistic color
cornstarch -- too make it more opaque like real blood.

(some substitute honey for the corn syrup -- thicker)

I don't know why, but you knowing how to do this ... scares me just a little. icon_surprised.gif

You can mix a bit of corn syrup into red bc icing, that would give you the opaqueness as well, the cornsyrup makes it shiny, only difficulty is to get the icing into the right hue

Thanks!!! I'm going to mix up the corn syrup and coloring and see what that looks like, if I can't get that to work, then I'll run up to walmart and get some piping gel, thanks a bunch!!! icon_smile.gif
