I am really considering purchasing a Kitchenaid stand up mixer but would like opinions on whether or not another brand would be any different. I was in a store today and saw the Kitchenaid as well as another brand that was stand up and looked much the same but was half the price.
I do have a food processor with a dough hook....does that work much the same?
opinions appreciated...
thanks!!! icon_smile.gif

Is this the other kind that you saw:

They don't make Sunbeam like they used to. I had a sunbeam and it shed its gears into my bowl of buttercream. I killed a GE stand mixer making buttercream too, and several other nameless ones.

Kitchenaid just mixes differently from the others...maybe it's from having just one beater, but it works better than any other mixer I ever had.

Kitchenaid or Hobart are the way to go. They have very strong motors.

I have been looking as well, and found an article in the Cooks Illustrated (March 2008 I think) that switched its top choice from Kitchen Aid to the new Cuisinart for home use. Prices are about the same as Kitchen Aid. I was at a cooking class last week and used a Viking-totally unimpressed!
