For those of you that use rice krispy treats to mold different shapes and then cover w/ fondant, do you put icing over the rice krispy treat before you cover it or do you just put the fondant right on the rkt?

And is it easy to mold shapes out of? I need to do a Barney cake next week and i'm going to try using rkt instead of doing all gumpaste...Thoughts on that? Is it easier to use just gumpaste or rkt?/

I personally find it easy to mold shapes, especially for the store bought ones because they don't get hard fast.

It is best to put some type of icing (buttercream or ganache) under fondant to help things smoothen out. I prefer to put two layers of fondant instead of using icing underneath.
