whats the process and ingredients used to put together the base for a novelty cake?
i've watched videos but most don't explain the whole process.....for example....... Iv'e seen someone put 3 chocolate sponges on top of each other with "some white stuff" between each layer, then smearing the white stuff all over the entire cake then putting some sort of rolled out white stuff on top and cutting excess off! HOW GOOD AM I AT TECHNICAL TERMS!

I would like to know the names of certain fillings/ cake coverings and ways to attach the rolled covering to the cake!

I'm a complete beginner....so i apologise if my message has just completly confused you! Sorry!!

Sort of rolled out white stuff= Fondant.

If you go to this thread, it's the third post down. JanH gives heaps of links on how to get started.
