I will be attempting my first purse cake. I want the straps to stand up. Do I need to add anything to my Fondant to make it harden better?

I would use gumpaste instead but I guess you could always add tylose (sp?) powder to fondant though.

Giving the handles plenty of time to dry is ideal. However if you're short for time, or you just want to be sure they'll stay up and not break, insert a piece of floral wire into the handle and then bend it in place. Once the fondant hardens, that wire will act like rebar in concrete and it won't go anywhere!
