I need to make a butterfly cake for a birthday, I dont want to buy a butterfly cake pan, since I probably wont use it again.
I need serving size of 30 and then I will be making a mini butterfly for the 1yr old for her own baby cake.
Does any one have a good idea on what cake pans would be best to use to carve it like this picture below???

I want to try and do something similar to the picture on this link

Print out the cake photo, enlarge it on a printer and make a template. You probably could carve it out of a 10 or 12 in round pan.

It's sitting on a round in the photo and there isn't that much you'd have to take off.
I'm with msulli10.

Be sure to carve the top layer down in the middle, so the body is indented.
