Could Older Marshmallows Yield Dry Mmf?

I made a batch of MMF in my KA yesterday and I followed the recipe I use exactly, but somehow it's very dry. When I was kneading it, it was still pliable, but as I was folding it over on itself, I saw that rough, texture that's indicative of dry MMF. I kneaded more crisco into it, and it was still pliable but dry.

I have made 3 batches of MMF in the past, and each one have turned out quite well. The only thing I'm wondering is if the marshmallows were too old? I think they've been in my pantry for about 6-8 weeks now. Could this be the problem?

If it can't be salvaged, can I use this batch of MMF to cover cake boards with? Or do I need to throw the whole batch away?

TIA!
