I am wanting to make a co-worker a cake for her son's 15th b-day. I found a cake photo on line here of someone who make a "ramp" style cake.

My question is...can I use the basic boxed cake mix when make a cake that needs to be carved, or is there a special more dense cake recipe that needs to be used...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I have no problems carving cakes out of any style/flavour of cake. I guess it depends on the complexity of the carving. Some really soft cakes won't hold their shape as well if you are going to be trimming or carving a lot.

Do you have a picture?
