Anyone have any tips on using cake dummies? I am going to be using my first cake dummie this weekend and I was in search of some tips. The entire cake is going to be fake. Do I still have to use dowels to keep it together? Sorry for the questions, but its kind of an important cake.

Dowels prevent the upper cake from sinking into the bottom cake. Styrofoam is a solid substance and nothing will sink into it. so no dowels are needed. If the cake is stacked, I don't even ice the entire top ....just ice 2-4" inside the edge, just enough icing to 'glue' the top tier onto the bottom tier. Holds fine. (some of my stacked dummies, I just pick up by the top tier to move them. Haven't lost one yet.)

I just put the BC directly on the styro. Cleans off easy.
