I am making a wine bottle cake and would like to do the label out of an edible image. My local bakery will print it for me. My icing will be butter cream. How many days in advance can I have the image printed? Is it okay on the cake indefinitely or will the BC break it down?
When I take it to the bakery can my picture be printed on regular paper or does it need to be on photo paper?
Anything else I should know?
Thanks

An edible image can be printed and stored for quite awhile without going bad. When they are printed its always on the edible paper because reg paper has chemicals etc and IMO if you are paying the bakery to print this for you make them use their paper.Buttercream always breaks down an image with time if you want to play it safe maybe make a backing for it in fondant place the image over it and then put it on the cake that way you don't have to worry bout the buttercream issue if you are doing this several days before because the fondant will protect it from the rest of the cake.Sorry its long. Anything else? Cin

If you're asking if they can scan from a photo on regular paper I'm sure they can. If the quality is better on photo paper then that might be a better choice. If you place the image on a fondant backing it wont meld into the BC and the outline will be very visible.

As long as you keep it sealed in an airtight bag, it will be fine for some time.

I think you meant did it matter what the image YOU TAKE TO THE BAKERY for them to scan is printed on? No...as long as it it clear and the colors they way you want them.

I wouldn't put it on the cake more than a day or so ahead....as suggested below, you could add it to a piece of fondant cut to resemble the label of the bottle...that would buy you a bit more time.
