what am i doing wrong?

the sunflower press works wonderfully with the smaller cutter, but the larger cutter is to wide for the press and the press leaves edge marks 1/16-32" inside the petal edge. it seems like the press is just not wide enough. the cut hydrangea overhangs!

my paste is really thin so it is not "growing" in the press.

did i just get a bad press or cutter or am i doing something wrong?

i need to make a zillion hydrangeas so i need to figure this problem out quick icon_cry.gif

If you thin after veining is it still noticeable?

I meant to say thin the edges with a ball tool.

hi peg,

that was one of the things i already tried. it doesn't remove the edge crease and kinda ruins the shape/veining of the press.
i also tried to "revein" with a veinging tool, but it didn't work either.

the smaller cutter works beautifully, but i need both sizes...

I thin all my edges after veining. But what if you try not pressing so hard on the press, so that the edge isn't as noticeable. The other thing i would try is to kind of squish it on. The only other thing i can think of is you are stretching that gumpaste slightly when you pick it up. I have a few of the sunflower brand veining/cutter sets, but not the one you are using, and some of them the larger cutter is right to the edge of the press, and if the petal sticks to the board when i'm picking it up it will stretch and not fit correctly.

i normally thin edges too after veining.
i tried not pressing on the edges. i tried just pressing on the center, lol. i think i have tried everything (without luck) and am now certifiably nuts from the effot...

my board was coated with cornstarch so it didn't stick. i had it very thin.
i even tried to nudge the petals inward, but they just are too big.

either i am really incompetent, or the large cutter is just a bit too big.
i like the cutter is just too big, option icon_smile.gif

i have the 5 petal blossom one and i don't have this problem.

i think i will probably end up making do with just one size and then when i get this cake done shooting a quick email to sunflower seeing if they can replace my cutter. i just don't know what is left to try.

thank you so much for trying to help me, i truly appreciate it.

The cutter IS to big for the veiner...always has been. You would think they would have adjusted that by now...sheesh.... I only handle the little cutter for that reason.

i can't tell you how good it felt to hear that!
i was stewing all last night that i was bad at sugar flowers because i couldn't get the large cutter to work...i wanted to believe the cutter was too big, but at heart i think i thought it must be me.
yeah! it's not me!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif
thank you,
