Has anyone here ordered any flavorings from I ordered the pistachio, rasberry, and egg nog extracts, and was very disappointed. They tasted like cough syrup icon_redface.gif

I haven't tried them, but have you just tasted them out of the bottle or did they taste bad when added to cakes or icings and such? Just wanted to ask because many flavourings taste terrible straight out of the bottle but wonderful when added to the batter or icing or whatever. Most of them taste like perfume with alcohol added, haha.

I added them to some frostings.....tasted like I poured my kids cough medicine in them....yuck! I noticed that when I opened them they smelled like cough syrup, but I thought well, sometimes they taste completely different in the cake or frosting....not the case this time. I compared my other grocery store extracts, and they smell similar to their taste, ie, strawberry extract smells like strawberry, lemon like lemon etc. The prices were so cheap....I should have known better!

Oh dear, that is too bad kiddo! Sometimes you get a good deal and sometimes you just get what you pay for. I was hoping they just smelled not too great! Sometimes things taste better once they are mixed in, but not with this stuff, right? Well, look at it this way, you were able to share this with all of us and warn us!
I asked because I have that reaction to most of the artificial flavourings and yet I am told they taste better than they smell. Heehee, I absolutely hate clear artificial vanilla because to me it tastes like it smells, like coconut!

I was really disappointed....I wanted to make some pistachio buttercream and thought this would be the easiest way....but unless the kids like cough syrup buttercream its not happening!! LOL!! I would like to say it was only the pistachio, but the egg nog and rasberry flavors made the buttercream taste medicine like also. Guess its back to using pudding and jello as flavorings!

Sorry about your bad experience. I use loranns oils, which work very well for me. They are concentrated, so it doesn't take very much to flavor your frosting. They have pistachio, eggnog...pretty much any flavor you could want. The can be found at .
