Fondant Spirals??

I saw this cake put up recently in the gallery:

Wanted to see how these spirals were cut out? I very new to this so any help would be appreciated.

this was a cake I made icon_biggrin.gif . I use marshmellowfondant and gumpaste 1:1 mixed, the use a pastamachine to roll out my fondant. let dry for a few minutes. cut out the subject and the let it dry for an other few minutes. it is difficult to know when to put it on the cake. too dry and they break when you put it on the round or bended sides. too soft and the spirals are losing shape.... so you must try sometimes. I did 5-6 cut outs and then tried the first one....

Thanks so much. I am very new to fondant and haven't even tried to add gumpaste to it.
