My cakes always look amazing but the fondant sometimes starts to ripple and create a ring effect...any ideas as to why?

do you mean you are getting a bulge around the middle? if so, that is a filling issue - lots of posts on this, but it will help to give the cake time to settle, or use a stiff bc damn around the edge.
otherwise, im not sure what it could be, maybe drying fondant, or too thick a coat of bc?
yes I think maybe the filling is comming out or air is getting trapped and causing rippling effect. ALmost liek a ring where the cakes meet up. I covered a cake with very little fillig and a light light layer of buttercream and it still happened. any suggestions? thanks!!!!!
Are you letting the cake sit any after you have filled it before you cover it with fondant? Cakes need time to settle, even if you are using a small amount of filling.
what brand of fondnat?
