My aunt has asked me to make a cake for my grandmothers 75th birthday. The only problem is I live in West TN and won't be at the party so she would like me to ship it to her.

The cake I want to make is a 2 tier cake covered in fondant.

Have any of you ever shipped a cake? If so, how could I do it?

The party is in mid-October.

unless your aunt is willing to pay serious money for a door to door service, i wouldnt do it. ive seen cupcakes and cookies survive, but have yet to see a cake survive - a few people have tried it.
the usual posting services are just too rough to cope with cake. if you find one of the old shipping posts, an old mail worker (i think) talks about how the mail is moved around - its not cake friendly!
