Hi -
A friend asked to me make her a dora cake. I'd like to make a sculpted cake. I have two thoughts.
1. Use a Teddy bear 3D pan and somehow use it to make Dora
2. Try my luck at making something like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chocolatemoosecakes/3445006656/

I would love to make option 2 but am not sure i have the potential. Any help on either one of these would be wonderful!!!!!!

Thanks a lot

I did look at the photo. It is doable, but easier would be to make it like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/chocolatemoosecakes/2750023658/ The body part is not difficult - cut a rectangular cake, carve a little to get rounded curves. For the head - make it from cake or RKT, supports through the arms and hands and through the neck part of body. You get three points where the head is supported.
RKT or even fake (foam) head is lighter and easier to do and there would be enough cake in the body and the beach ball, if you do it this way.

Good luck!

How long to RKT last? I am thinking of making the head a week in advance. That way I have enough time to do a backup plan if things fail. Do you think making the head a week in advance might be too early?

RKT is rice krispies, marshmallow and butter. It will hold few weeks. It could help to leave the ball of RKT in freezer overnight, but this has nothing with its shelf life. It only helps to set it better.
