I have made several cakes and was wondering how to make the edges of the cake very sharp. The cake seems to have very sharp edges until I put the fondant on the cake and it some how becomes very rounded. Is there something that I can do to make the edges very sharp and have a clean edge?

Thanks,

Liz

Try using two fondant smoothers at the same time. (I think Wilton smoothers are only $5.) To see the technique, check out this video.

The entire (7 minute) video is good, but she starts demonstrating how to do the nice sharp corners around the 6 minute mark. I hope that helps. Good luck!

i cut the cakes edges before i ice and then put the cake in the fridge to stiffen up, then put the fondant on and use fondant smoothers. icon_wink.gif

Yep, same type of technique as you see in the above mentioned youtube video with the 2 fondant smoothers.
