So I have a potential customer interested in a DJ 's Turntable cake. They sent me a few photos of turntable cakes and to me it looks like it would be a fairly easy job. I have used fondant and have been ok on square cakes but still wishy washy on rounds. So I am hoping this will be a good one to start with.
Id like any recommendations on doing this cake, like size, proprtions and such. They are wanting maybe a half sheet size.

Ok, so I have talked to the person again and they prefer not to have fondant. Is there a way to use ganache or buttercream or something else so it looks just as good as a turntable cake with fondant?
I have also looked at the gallery here and see that it looks like a few people just used a piece of foam for right under the record peice, does the foam need to be covered with fondant? if so do i need to use supports under it?
Sorry for so many q's, I just want to get it right! lol.
