If you are using dowels in a two tier ( 10 in and 8 in) round cake, what diameter dowel would you use? I bought 7/16 and 3/8. Is the bigger one overkill? TIA

I only use the Wilton wooden dowels and I am not sure what the diameter for those ones. Try bubble tea straws.

For the sizes you are doing, the 7/16 dowel should work just fine. You should only need about 5 or 6 tops. One in the middle and the rest around it.
