I hope someone can answer my question. I just made up a batch of buttercream (i use all shortening, meringue powder, icing sugar, powdered sugar, salt) but instead of making it like i normally do i decided to make chocolate. I had read that i could substitute one cup of my shortening for one can of the ready made chocolate frosting. So i did that and now i'm wondering if i still need to refrigerate the finished batch of buttercream? The container of icing said that any leftovers should be refrigerated. icon_surprised.gif I was making this icing for a family cake for the weekend and didn't want to have to refrigerate it. I don't want to make anyone sick.
I have to say that i am really unhappy with the results of the icing..thank goodness it will be covered with kitkats and M+m's. It ended up filled with air bubbles, and would've been a nightmare to smooth and pipe with.

Anyhow, refrigerate my chocolate buttercream or not?

No, it doesn't have to be refrigerated.

Whew! Thanks, for the info. I was kinda paniced thinking i was gonna have to find room in my mom's fridge for it.
