I am making a cake for my grand daughters birthday, I usually dont do the baking just the decorating. Can I used a boxed cake mix? Do I have to alter the recipe at all to get the more dense cake for decorating? It will be a topsy turvey cake. Thanks icon_smile.gif

I would. If it's a white cake, try the White Almond Sour Cream cake recipe on here. I don't use the almond flavouring in it myself (just more vanilla), but it depends on your taste. There is a chocolate version too. It's a good dense cake for carving, etc. There are also lots of doctored box mix recipes on here to help you make a boxed mix heavier.
