I want to make a very small 2 tied cake with the smalle tir being a 5" pan and the 3rd (highest) tier being a cupcake... My question is do i need to put anything in the cake to support the tiers since the cake is so small?

I just made one and it didn't need any support at all. It was a bit smaller than yours though, 4", 3" and 2".
