I have a book with all 3 types ofrecipes. I have tried the butter cakes and they are yummy. I want to use the recipes in this book for an upcoming wedding cake. Do you all recommend a type of cake for a wedding cake? Is pound cake better because of its density, or does it not matter? I usually use mixes, but I want to switch to scratch for this one!! Thanks!

A sponge cake will probably not be able to hold the weight of fondant, if that's what you are using. I think that I would go with a butter cake or other pound cake just for stability.
