I am trying to attach fondant swags to my fondant covered cake. I was told to use egg whites as glue, but I'm not comfortable with raw egg on my cake. Also, for the future, what works for attaching fondant decorations to buttercream frosted cakes? Thanks for your help!

I like to use Meringue Powder (which is basically dried egg whites, minus the issues of using raw eggs!) mixed with a little bit of water. It works as a pretty strong glue to hold up to the weight of the swags. When I attach fondant to buttercream (after it has crusted) I usually use vanilla extract. Hope this helps!

You can make gumpaste glue by either dissolving a tiny piece of gum paste in a tiny bit of water, or adding some water to tylose, or water to meringue as pp said.

To attach fondant decorations to bc I use either a little bit of water or a tiny dab of bc itself.

The tinest bit of water glues fondant to fondant.
