I'm almost finished with my entry for the local fair and I have a basket of flowers on the top tier that I would LOVE to add a handle to. What would you recommend? Gumpaste or royal icing? I'm not exactly sure how to make this... I have made a royal icing handle but it's not looking the best.

I would use gum paste.

when I took wilton course 2 they taught us to do a handle out of royal icing using the rope boarder and the template from the oval cake pans. They looked pretty good

I would make it out of either gumpaste, 50/50 gumpaste fondant mix, or fondant with CMC added (any of those will work fine).

When you make the handle, insert a wooden skewer into either end and let it dry that way, so that you can just slide the skewers into cake.

Thanks everyone. My husband brought home a piece of wire from work and we wrapped it with fondant. It looks fantastic!
