I was looking to buy some red edible pearls and thought of this. Can you take a neutral colored pearl, white or ivory, and roll it in red luster dust to color it? I didn't know if it would work, so I thought I would ask.

Thanks!

I make my own "pearls" out of fondant and a round piping tip. Roll fondant (colored if you want) then use the tip as a cutter and finish rolling by hand. Bigger tip equals bigger pearl. I think there is a demo on this site. HTH.

It comes out kinda see through pearly red.
Painting them would get a more opaque color.

There's another way to do it too--If you chill your pearls in the frige then roll and rub them in the dust it adheres great. Be prepared to do minor touch ups no matter what method you use.

I'd only chill the ones I was gonna use.

Chilling pearly thoughts for you.
