I am putting the finishing touches on a Wall-e cake and need dirt.

Yeah I could use crushed oreos but I need to add different textures like the movie.

Any ideas?

I could use a combo of oreos, graham crackers and what else?

TIA

Katie

Vanilla wafers crushed become a fine sand. Chocolate chip cookies crushed are another alternative to just plain black dirt.

any kind of crushed cookie or cracker will work -- even brown sugar can work

my sand is 2 part graham crackers, 2 part vanilla wafers and 1 part brown sugar.

Go to the cookie section of your grocery store and you will find plenty of things.

Did you make the cake out of chocolate? That way it seems like they are eating dirt as well.

Well the birthday boy wanted vanilla cake so the cake is vanilla.

I am trying to steer away from sand... so I will post pictures!

I just returned from the store. I came home with chocolate creme cookies, chocolate chip and ginger snaps plus chocolate graham crackers and normal graham crackers.

Gonna make me some dirt!!

Are you rolling the dummy in it? Like coating the surface? Or using it as "sand" for a theme of some sort?

I have used Royal icing to cover the cake and colored it light brown but since it is a fair scene i wanted to put brown sugar on top of cake to make it look more like dirt.

This is for the AV Fair it is a theme cake i wanted to just add brown sugar to make it look more like dirt but not dark, like at a carnival fair. The theme is Diamonds are Fairever. Not coating it just adding for more texture on top of cake around the rides and ticket booth and food booth.
