Freezing Fondant

I'm truly a novice at this and would like to know if anyone has ever frozen a cake/minicake with the fondant on it. My daughter asked me to make individual minicakes for her wedding. I've been told it can't be done but have been practicing and put a couple in the freezer. I took one out last night and let it defrost and it looked as good as when it went in. I'm hoping someone can let me know if this will work since it will save a lot of time and stress if I can do this a couple of weeks before the wedding. I also know of someone who always freezes her cakes after decorating them with buttercream and they are always gorgeous (she has never worked with fondant).
