My friend, who just moved to their new house wants me to make cake for "Open house/birthday party", the BD is for her husband and their son (6). I am running out of idea how to combine cake with this event. Any idea out here?? She doesn't know what she wanted right now, and how many people will be there as well. I have 2 weeks to figure out, and trying get more info from her, as what her husband likes etc. But I think it should be housewarming theme there as well as BD.
In my scale: I don't know how to carve, and made figures etc from gum paste. But worked with fondant before, just cover cakes etc...
Thank you.
open house = opening presents????
soooo
looks like a big present box - opened...
out of it coming a model house and "toys" appropriate for dad and son?
You could use a 3D pan to make a stand up house (so you don't have to carve) and decorate the outside like they are having a bd party.....ballons, sign, presents, cake, etc. Good luck!!
Hmmmm...maybe something general like balloons, stripes, polka dots. If they are moving to a different town or state, maybe you could do something that highlights their new location. Personally, I would ask if I could do this cake (minus the "1" of course, and in boy colors.)

I have one of those giant cupcake pans and haven't used it yet.
You could also do more of a dessert type cake, like chocolate with choc. covered strawberries, like this:

How about these:

Good luck!
I like the idea of house and outside decoration for party on the grass.
1) How would you carve rice krispie blocks for the house, never used them before, but heard they are used for decoration and covered with fondant??
2) how would you use the pty decoration (balloons) on a cake if it is on grass???
3) How about put 2 cupcake on the grass for each BD boy?
My head is cracking, I am still waiting for her responds and ideas help.
