Funky Flavor Request?

I have a bride who wants different flavors for each tier of her wedding cake. She had asked for some flavor suggestions from me and I gave her some of my favorites. One of the flavors I'd suggested was raspberry swirl cake with vanilla BC. They want that for the largest tier and are requesting to add Snicker chunks to the filling. I've never tried raspberry flavor with a Snicker bar, and it might be good, but this flavor combo just seems a little funky to me. Should I gently advise against it? Does anyone else think this might be a bad combo or does it sound good? I'm not sure what to think about it. It's her cake, so she'll get it if thats what she really wants, but she is asking if that sounds like a good combo or not. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I think it sounds funky too. You might ask her if she thinks that her guests will like the flavor combo. Hopefully, that will get her thinking that the cake is ALSO for the guests!

If she's asking if it sounds good or not I would tell her exactly what you think (gently of course). To me, raspberry snickers don't sound good! LOL!

totally agree, maybe and the snickers to one of the other layers of the cake or the top tier, that would be cool just for them since it was her idea

As someone with an allergy to nuts and two sons with braces on their teeth, I'm with you--funky request. I would ask her to consider using Snickers in the top tier (their anniversary tier) instead of the whole cake, out of consideration for their guests who may find Snickers an unpleasant suprise. Have dentures? Ouch!

mAybe you can suggest a dark chocolate ganche, cause I'm sorry, that flat out sounds nasty. I like raspberries, I like snickers, but togther thumbsdown.gif ! Sometimes you have to gently suggest flavor combos. We are the experts! icon_smile.gif

thanks for the responses everyone! I feel better knowing I'm not the only one thinking this one sounds odd and not too good. I think I'll advise either leaving the raspberry swirl out of the cake and just going butter cake with vanilla bc with snickers chunks or leaving the raspberry swirl in and omitting the snickers. Thanks for the quick help everyone! Going to go e-mail her now. icon_smile.gif

CakeRx has a point about the peanut allergy issue! i like snickers, but I think that might be a little weird. The dark choc and raspberry sounds delicious!

Your ideas sound so much better.

I think it's odd too, but it depends on how you make your raspberry swirl cake. I personally don't ever advise filling other than maybe a white chocolate or vanilla mousse with it because RS has it's own stand-alone flavor.

If you make your cake wiht real raspberries that are broken up and swirled in, it could work, but I still think it sounds kind of gross (and I like both!)

Snickers would be good paired with a chocolate or white chocolate cake or even go so far as a kahlua or irish cream cake.

snickers really sticks to those teeth, that is a weird combo. Is she pregnant?
