I made mine with pretzel rods and gumpaste.

I use a dowel stick cut to the size I want, wrap it in brown fondant, then take scissors and slice in the grooves of the bark starting from the bottom and working up to the top. Leave about 2 inches of the stick exposed on the bottom so you can insert it into styrofoam for it to dry. Next take green fondant, roll it out and then cut out palms using lily leaf cutters small, mediums and large, make small grooves along their edges with a gumpaste tool. Put these in medium and large flower formers to shape them while they dry. Once everything is dry assemble by using a small dot of moistened gumpaste to attach the leaves to the top of the palm trunk and build on top from there. Wait for each one to set before adding the next. When you get to the top of the tree's palms use the smallest leaves and face the tips of the palms upward. If you go to my photos you will see a beach theme cake with a finished palm tree so you can see how it looks when finished. Good luck.
