I'm making a cake for a friend's baby shower. A few people have severe nut allergies. I wasn't planning on using any nut products. What precautions should I take?
The biggest precaution you should take is to label the cake box in LARGE letters that state "while every reasonably precaution has been taken to avoid nut products, I cannot guarantee this cake to be 100% allergen-free." Just not using nut products is no guarantee that your cake will be allergen free. To be TRULY allergen-free you must prepare your cakes in a kitchen with equipment that has never come in contact with other nut products, and all of your ingredients must come from suppliers that guarantee themselves to be nut-free.
