I am making a 5 inch tier for my cake. I baked 2- 6 inch cakes and leveled and filled them. My question is should I use a cake circle to separate the two cakes even though they are going to be the same (top) tier of the cake? I just wasn't sure if it would be unstable after constructing the cake. I will of course anchor the cake with a dowell, maybe that will stabilize it. They are ultimately going to be covered with fondant. Thanks for your help.
I think it would be ok without. I've made tiers taller than 5 inch with no problems.
