Is There A Trick To Keeping Icing From Falling Off Bouquet?

when i make my cupcake bouquets (crusting buttercream, high humidity recipe). All the cupcakes seem to hold it pretty well except for the ones hanging at a 90 degree angle. the icing ends up sliding off of them or pulling off the top of my cupcake.
Am I doing something wrong? should I not use a mix cake for bouquets? or is it my frosting?
