I've been asked to bake/decorate a cake for my great-niece who will be 2 at the end of Aug. Her mom wants a Monkey Luau cake because that is their theme. I don't have a clue on how to even start. I'm not familiar with fondant and was instructed"no fondant", only buttercream frosting. Can someone please give me some ideas? I would like to try to make palm tree, surfboard and monkey. I bought a chocolate mold for candy monkeys but couldn't find a surfboard. Please help! I'm desperate!
Here's a link where you can find some palm tree & surfboard candy mold:

If your looking for instructions on how to mold palm tree's and surfboards yourself please let us know. You can always make the cake and ice it with buttercream and make all your accent pieces with either fondant, fondant/gum paste, gumpaste or chocolate.
HTH!
Thank you for giving me some ideas and for a link to some fantastic molds. I'm eager to get started.
If you go to the galleries section and click on search and put monkey luau as your keywords you will find several pages worth of photos. Here's just one:
It looks like a pretzel stick was just for the palm tree:
