I am making a huge cake for my son's birthday party which is this Saturday. I'm trying to make a candy mold in a Mickey Mouse Cake pan. Everything is going ok except the black. I started with just trying to color a 1/4 cup black and I used over half the bottle of candy color just doing that. And it didn't harden like the other colors I did. I put it in the fridge and it hardened but this morning when I took the face out of the pan the nose and eyes stuck in the pan. I need to get this mold made today..can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Did you use chocolate or vanilla candy for the black?

If you start with chocolate (preferably the dark chocolate flavor) you won't need as much color.

I'm guessing that the amount of color you used in the melts is what changed the consistency.

You should also try freezing it instead of putting it in the fridge, it will set up harder and will be more likely to come out right.

I agree you need to start with the dark chocolate candy melts, you wont need much black food coloring.
