I used to have that problem too but I went to a convention for product and I got a priceless tip, I watched the rep from the fondant co. put crisco on his work surface. I have since used crisco instead of confection sugar and not only does it keep the fondant from sticking to things but it also gives your fondant a fresh sheen!

I use crisco too and it makes it so much easier to work with on both gumpaste and fondant. Putting crisco on your hands also helps them from getting dyed when coloring.

I do prefer to use cornstarch rather than powdered sugar when using stencils and cutouts. Just brush off the excess with a really, soft bristle brush.

Rub vegetable shortening onto the cake and wipe if off with a paper towel.
