What Do You Add To Make Your Cake Mix Firmer?

Im making a ball cake Friday and need to know how do you make a cake mix cake denser. I have made the baseball cake before but it didnt hold its shape the cake was just to moist I think. Thanks

There's a recipe here entitled 'Darn Good Chocolate Cake' under cake mix recipes, and that is a *very* solid and firm cake once it's all done. I would think you could adjust the ingredients needed so that you could do any flavor of mix cake if you don't like chocolate.

I made that recipe for my son's birthday cake, and it was SO incredibly dense and firm. It cut beautifully, and lifted off the cake board beautifully as well.

I would replace the oil with part butter/part shortening to make a firmer cake. Also, add an extra egg.

Try the WASC recipe. I use the original version.
