The possibilities are endless! Sometimes I make the filling and the frosting the same. Sometimes I put a fruit filling in the cupcake.
I like to use a raspberry filling and lemon frosting with lemon cake.
Tish Boyle has a book that helps you figure out what to pair with what. You have to read the description, but she tells what flavors go together. I found it very helpful. Although, I wasn't a fan of her actual recipes.
