I used the Wilton Cake Pan stips and found them to be really smelly while they were baking. I heard somewhere about using towel strips. Has anyone done this so that the cakes come out even/leveled? I'm figuring that I would have to wet the towel and adhere it with a safety pin but I want to make sure that's okay. How wide should the towel strip be, should it be double folded or is a single strip okay. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

I've done it and yes, it does make the cake level. I usually use long strips of towels so I can just tuck it in instead of using a pin.

Oh and it usually fold it.

The towels would need to be soaked in cold water, right?

I just wet the towel in running water. Once It is fully wet, I wrap it around. You can soak it if you want, I just think running it in the faucet is so much easier.
