The only thing I can think of is to make it out of melting candy - piles of plops.

I'll be interested to see any suggestions you get !!

That got coffee on my screen!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Is there going to be a horse on the cake too or just the dung??

If there's is a horse you could use chocolate wafer cookie crumbs to spread out like the manure in the pen.

Or form gumpaste or chocolate clay...

tootsie rolls, you can even soften them a bit and shape them

Same as pp's...blobs of chocolate? If you wanna texturize it, maybe add some coconut? (Not sure of the exact texture of horse manure...)

Wow.....never thought I'd be writing about the texture of poop on a cake message board! LOL!

Do a search in the galleres for 'poop'. You'll be amazed at cakes. Kind of gross but kind of cool at the same time how real they look.

I would go with the modeling chocolate. The recipe is easy and its super inexpensive too. I like the idea of using coconut flakes for texture...maybe you can try toasting the coconut flakes! This sounds great!!!

Chocolate clay. Molded properly, it looks just like crap. I weirded out the neighborhood kids with it a couple of weeks ago. It was fun for me, but now they think I'm crazy.

Ok, no suggestions. Just can't resist the opportunity to tell this story.

Long time ago, we were grilling out in the back yard. I was eating a leftover rolled taco. To be funny, I pulled the meat out of the taco and tossed it in the grass right where my dad would probably step.

He comes out, almost steps on the meat. "Dammit! Those cats are crapping in the yard again!". I looked at it, picked it up, sniffed it, and took a big bite. Grinned from ear to ear and said "Yep, it's those damn cats again!"

The look on his face was fantastically priceless! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

How about making the no-bake chocolate cookies that we used to get at lunch when we were in grade school??? (You might not have had them but that was like a Friday staple where I grew up.) They're SO easy. Here's a recipe I found on cooks dot com.

They do look like little piles of poo - especially with the oatmeal in there - but they taste SO GOOD!!

Good luck!
Julie

NO BAKE CHOCOLATE OATMEAL COOKIES

2 cups sugar
1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
1/2 cup Pet milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups oats

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients except peanut butter and oats and cook over medium heat. Let boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter and oats.

Spoon out quickly onto wax paper or aluminum foil. Cookies will harden as they set.

As kids we made stuff out of melted chocolate & crushed shredded wheat. Makes great birds nests but kinda looks like manure too icon_lol.gif

I made poop recently for a cow cake by baking some cake batter poured onto a cookie sheet. Just a few tablespoons made each "pile" and they took about 10-15 minutes to bake.
Once done and cooled I iced them with chocolate buttercream.
I don't know how realistic you wanted to get, but they were able to pick these up and eat them like they were cupcakes.
The cow is in my pics if you want to take a look.

My vote is for nobake cookies... Easy peasy.... I make em all the time. You can even add some real fine chopped peanuts, or use chunky peanut butter to add more texture. You could put it in a pastry bag, and swirl it on to the pan to dry to make it look like a poopy swirl... yum.

I just had to add this story, thanks for letting me indulge icon_biggrin.gif

When I got married, someone gave me a cookbook full of her favorite fast and easy recipes. One of the recipes was for what most people call no-bake cookies, but her family calls them "gorilla poops." icon_lol.gif
That is what my husband and I (and now our kids) have called them ever since!

If it's just the turds you need, then I'd go with modeling chocolate. If the horse has been stabled, you can mix chocolate and coconut to get the look of it when it's been scooped from the barn floor.

At my friend's wedding, the groom's cake was a cow with manure at the bottom. They used hershey kisses.

i agree with the chocolate melt idea.

What about trying the toasted coconut marshmallows? They already have the flakes on them.

Interesting thread. Made me laugh. icon_lol.gif

Some kind of chocolate. I think I would go w/ modeling chocolate or tooties rolls. I think for texture I would use shredded wheat instead of coconut. They eat hay & their poo is grassy in texture (this is sooooo nasty). I think coconut would work, but shredded wheat would be closer to the real deal.

This too is gross, but if you wanted to add a grainy texture cream of wheat or grits would help in that area or ground up rice krispies
