needs to feed atleast 400 she says. i was looking at the wilton serving guide but didn't see where it said how many servings (maybe i am retarted) but i was trying to count all the little squares and gave up at 116, lol. i am guessing a 400 serving cake plus top tier would be 6-7 tiers? she asked if the grooms cake would count as part of the 400 servings and i really have no idea. if so, i suggested a 5 or 6 tier plus grooms cake plus a sheet cake just in case. the pic she sent me was a 4 tier and i am really kinda nervous to go too hight with it as i am pretty new to all this, but at the same time i think it would be really awesome to make a huge cake.
Personally, I couldn't work with cake that big, meaning, one stack of cake to feed that many. I am doing a 294 serving square deal in December, and talked them into a 3 tier main, with two smaller two tiers on both sides. Should be pretty cool looking!
thanks that is the chart i was looking for but couldn't find it. i was just trying to calculate and 400 servings is waaaaay too much for a tiered cake so i think i will do 5 tiers and the rest in sheet cakes
Meh, I did one stacked cake that served 520 and another that served 600. I love the big cakes. Quite dramatic.
i thought it would be really cool to do a huge one too, but looking at that serving guide a 6 tier (6,8,10,12,14,16) would only get me 296. do they make bigger pans than 16"? or can i do like 8,9,10,11,12? i think that wouldn't leave enough of an edge to get the desired effect but you guys are more expereinced than me. btw leahs, i looked at your photos and they are gorgeous! such a relief to get advice from such talented people
