Are you putting it on fondant or BC?

It's really easy actually.

1)If needed, trim the picture.
2)Decide exactly where it'll be placed.
3)Peel the paper off the back.
4)If you're placing it on fondant, put some small BC dots near the edges. If you're placing it on BC, skip this step.
5)Lay the image on the cake and gently smooth with your hands.
6)If you want to, add a little BC border to clean up the edges.

I did TONS of edible images at my last job. The most important part is to be very gentle and avoid moisture at all costs.

Tonite I was putting an Image on fondant. I pealed it off the backing. placed it back on the backing and positioned the image. I then quickly pulled out the backing while the image stayed in its place. It gave perfect positioning. I then genlty smoothed it using my hands. Be sure your hands are dry and free of oils. If you are using fondant, you can either spray a fine mist of water or use a little crisco on the fondant.
