Cake Weeping After Frosting

What causes a cake to weep after it is frosted. This was done on a wedding cake and the only one that this happened to was the chocolate cake, all others were fine. It seeped from below the bottom border in 3 places

were the cakes cold or frozen when you frosted them? that was my first thought.
