Hi all, has anyone ever used the red velvet box mix with an extender recipe??? If so, how did it work out? Is there a recipe out there that I could use? Thanks in advance for any help.

There are a couple of RV in the recipe section that you could try.

I've never used the Red Velvet mix in WASC as I don't care for DH. I did some research and came up with my own version. I took the basics of a Cakeman Raven recipe, plus a couple other scratch versions and developed this:

1 box white cake mix (I use PB)
1 cup flour + 1 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 tsp salt
3 TBSP Cocoa powder
3 eggs
8 oz. sour cream
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp white vinegar
3/4 oz. red food coloring (liquid)
1 TBSP vanilla

Whisk together dry ingredients then add in all moist/wet ingredients and mix for about 2 min. Bake at 330 for about 50 min.

Any 'velvet' cake is supposed to be a buttermilk cake but the RV has a distinct flavor... thats why I added the extra vinegar. My customer said it was perfect, the same as she grew up on. I frosted with SMBC and covered in White chocolate fondant. Considering I've never had red velvet, I guess I did okay!

I have made it with the WASC recipe as the base. It works fine.
