Why Does Fondant Crack?

The last time I covered a cake with fondant, later in the afternoon I noticed a hairline crack in the fondant (luckily at the back of the cake). Why would this happen and is there a way to fix it.

Was it a tiered cake? And was it the bottom tier that cracked?

To fix it - you can take some RI and match the color. Then put a small amount onto the cake. Remove the excess.
