Should I make it with a dark chocolate cake or just a regular chocolate one?

I use dark chocolate sponge cake. Yum!

dark chocolate definitely. Traditionally black forest is made with dark chocolate genoise soaked in kirsch syrup. thumbs_up.gif

I made it with dark chocolate cake - no kirsch syrup - just with the cherries and whipped cream and it was sooooo good.

I had to get it from a liquor store. They didn't have it in any grocery store near me.
