Hi I have been reading old posts to the subject, but none of them seem to say what you do when it came to stacked cake, I was planning on icing my dummies & just stacking them together and putting a dowel rod down the center but will this hold the tiers together? I know dummies are lighter.

How do you stack dummy cakes?

You can glue them together with RI. I would still use the center dowel though.

won't the buttercream break down the royal icing?

I just ice them in BC. I don't even ice the center of the top of the dummy. Just enough BC on the outer edges to look like it's iced. Plop the next tier on top and it holds fine. I pick up 3 tier cakes by the top tier and throw them around ... they hold up just fine.

You don't need a center dowel. That's an absolute waste of time, material and effort.
