Hi, i am needing to make my own dowel rods for a 2 tier cake.
What to use.??????
Can i just get dowel from my local hardware or is this treated and shouldn't be used with food?

My nearest cake shop is over an hour away and i do not have time to go there.........
Need to organise something ASAP

Thanks

I get all of my dowels from the hardware/home improvement store. They are untreated wood and you can wipe them down with white vinegar (a natural disinfectant) to sanitize them before putting in the cake, if you like.

I use bubble tea straws, they are plastic (easy to cut) and larger then normal drinking straws.

WELCOME TO CC!

I use bubble tea straws.

I honestly wouldn't suggest using ones from a hardware store. It's a hardware store and it may have been in contact with spilled chemicals or whatsoeve. Imagine, try pouring pesticides in a wooden board. The wood will absorb it. Whatever cleaning you do and sanitizing, I'm sure there will be some of those chemical left. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
